For the first time in years, Billy Joel has new music on the way with the upcoming single "Turn The Lights Back On," due out February 1.

According to a press release, the song is a "classic Billy Joel-style tune, embodying the hallmarks of his signature sound and ushering in the next chapter of his story. In the lyrics, he asks, 'Did I wait wait too long ... to turn the lights back on?'"

The Piano Man last released original music in 2007 with the singles, "All My Life" and "Christmas in Fallujah." His last album effort in the realm of popular music was 1993's River of Dreams.

But on February 1, with his record-breaking Madison Square Garden residency heading for a close, Joel will drop a new song.

"I have good news, I have bad news, I'll give you the bad news first," Joel told an audience in December. "We don't have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don't have to sit through something you have no idea what it is! Although ... we got a little something we're working on you might hear some time."
