For the second time this month, David Lee Roth has surprise-released a new solo single.
The song, "Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway," is another nostalgic, acoustic-guitar driven piece to come out of Diamond Dave's sessions with guitarist John 5 in the middle of last decade. a
John 5 himself has praised "Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway" as one of the true gems to come out of his writing sessions with Roth.
"This song is so great, and I just literally will beg Dave and Dave's team to release this song," he told Ultimate Classic Rock last year. "'Cause it's about Van Halen, and it's so good. I mean, it's so f---ing good. And I just wish he would release it."
After Roth's official Instagram account posted about the new release via Instagram, John 5 followed up, sharing his excitement in the comments.
"My favorite," he wrote. "I'll never forget the day we recorded this."

Earlier this July, Roth released a song called "Pointing at the Moon," his first release since The Roth Project webcomic/EP in late-2020.
Roth announced his retirement last year, but suggested as recently as June that he might just be in his "first retirement." It remains unclear if his recent slate of releases is building to something or if he's simply tying up loose ends and emptying his vault of unheard material.
