Les Claypool Gets Bass Lesson From Geddy Lee Ahead Of Primus' RUSH Tribute

Primus bassist/frontman Les Claypool is going to be well prepared for his band's upcoming 'Tribute to Kings' Rush celebration tour.

Claypool, a lifelong Rush fan and friend of the Holy Triumvirate since the early-'90s, has apparently been sneaking in a few bass lessons from Geddy Lee himself ahead of the tour.

This weekend, Claypool shared a photo of himself and Lee sitting opposite one another with basses in the playing position. "Learning from the master," Claypool wrote in the caption.

On Tuesday (August 10) Primus is set to embark on a tour in which they will celebrate Rush's 1977 A Farewell to Kings album. Primus will perform a set of their own music and cover that beloved Rush album in its entirety.

Primus originally announced the 'Tribute to Kings' tour with The Sword in February of 2020 after kicking around the idea for well over a year prior to Neil Peart's death that January. But as with most things scheduled for last year, the tour was postponed until this summer.

The first Rush album Claypool ever heard was A Farewell to Kings. He first saw the band on its 1978 'Tour of the Hemispheres.' As he writes in the foreword to the Rush touring compendium Wandering the Face of the Earth, that Rush concert at the Cow Palace in San Francisco change his life forever.
