Gregg Rolie Says Steve Perry Should Perform With Journey at Hall of Fame Induction

Former Journey keyboardist Gregg Rolie says he can't predict what's going to happen when it's time for the band to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony Friday, April 7.

Rolie, a founding member of Journey, confirmed in an interview Tuesday with Q104.3 New York's Ken Dashow that he will perform one song with his former band. But he doesn't know what former Journey frontman Steve Perry's plans are, other than that he knows Perry is going to be in attendance.

"We'll see what happens," Rolie said. "I have no idea what's going to go on."

"This is that one moment in history," Dashow said to Rolie of Perry joining Journey for a song at the induction, "that it should come together."

"For me this is about fans," Rolie replied. "I think all fans would like to see the whole group -- past, present, future, whatever -- get up and play. Because I think that's what it's about. It always has been about that."

Rolie knows a thing or two about getting over feuds in rock and roll. Also an original member of Santana, Rolie will be entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday for the second time in his amazing career. The original Santana lineup reunited last year to record, Santana IV and tour with Journey.

"You could feel it," Rolie recalled of the good will for the band's Madison Square Garden show. "You could absolutely feel it from the stage. You could see it on [the fans'] faces. It's amazing."

Whether Perry agrees to put aside his differences with Journey or not remains to be seen.

Dashow and Rolie went on to talk about how Santana formed and Rolie's ongoing involvement with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.
