Pete Townshend has been all over the place when talking about a potential Who farewell tour. First he said the band would "certainly will tour" one last time, before saying "I'm not doing a farewell tour" back in April. His last comments came in August, when the guitarist admitted he was on board but doesn't "converse" with Roger Daltrey and doesn't want to "bully" his bandmate into playing together again.
Now, there's another update. And it's a good one for fans. "I met with Roger for lunch a couple of weeks ago," Townshend told The Standard in a recent interview. "We're in good form. We love each other. We're both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year."
The duo last played together in 2023 with a full orchestra, but Townshend would rather do a more conventional rock setup like Daltrey did earlier this year. "The last big tours that we've done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious," he noted, "but we're now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes."
As for a new album, Townshend's still trying to persuade Daltrey. "The album side of it – Roger's not keen but I would love to do another album," he admitted, "and I may try to bully him on that." The Who's last album was 2019's self-titled.
