Sammy Hagar & the Circle will release their second studio album, Crazy Times, later this year.
Hagar launched The Circle in 2014 with guitarist Vic Johnson, drummer Jason Bonham and his longtime Van Halen / Chickenfoot bandmate bassist Michael Anthony. The band's first album of original material, Space Between, arrived in 2019.
The Red Rocker delivered the news about Crazy Times during a conversation with Forbes, saying the new album would arrive in a "couple of months."
"We made a record called Crazy Times with [producer] Dave Cobb," Hagar said. "It's the best record I ever made in my life, but I hate to even say that because that's what everyone says. But I'm telling you from my heart, it's the best record I ever made in my life. We did it at this RCA Studio with all that vintage equipment, it sounds phenomenal. It's great, my best songwriting ever, best production ever, and we made four videos already."
Cobb, though best known for his work in country music, is a lifelong Van Halen fan, Hagar said, and he was determined to "squeeze" the best performances possible out of the band. The result, according to Hagar, is "a hybrid of everything I've ever been involved with musically."
The band's debut album, Space Between, came out in 2019, and its Lockdown 2020 covers record arrived in early-2021. Hagar initially said that the tour in support of Space Between would be his last large-scale tour, but the pandemic shutdowns stopped the tour before it started.
