Roger Daltrey Announces 'Live And Kicking' U.S. Solo Tour This Summer

Roger Daltrey has announced a short run of solo tour dates this summer that will get him back onstage with members of The Who's backing band.

Daltrey will perform a setlist of Who classics, album cuts and solo favorites during the jaunt. Three dates have been announced so far, but more announcements are coming soon.

Daltrey has been eager to tour as much as possible in recent years. He explained his general sense of urgency in a 2019 interview with Billboard, saying "within the next five years I think my voice will go. Age will get it in the end."

The pandemic shutdowns have reportedly made Daltrey all the more restless. Longtime bandmate Pete Townshend recently told Rolling Stone that getting back onstage in front of an audience is all the singer can talk about.

"When I speak to him, he just goes, 'I just wanna get out there and sing!'" Townshend said of is partner. "'I can't use my voice! It's my instrument! If I don't use it, I'll die!'"

Townshend himself is closely watching the economics of post-pandemic touring. He says the next few years may be difficult for classic acts like The Who. Venues and promoters have lost so much money during the shutdowns that they will likely book whatever acts will sell tickets the quickest — those are generally younger acts with younger fans, he explained.

Depending on how more fiscally conservative fans behave in these uncertain times, that might make it difficult for bands like The Who to make up canceled dates or add new ones.

He added that if The Who gets an opportunity to get back on tour soon, the band will take it.
