“Here Today”..starring , co-written and directed by Billy Crystal & co-starring another comedic great: Tiffany Haddish. He plays (what a stretch) a legendary comedian . Haddish wins a prize to have lunch with the legend, only she doesn’t have a clue who he is. It turns into a strong friendship. This is the first movie Billy has directed since “61”, 20 years ago, with Barry Pepper starring as Roger Maris. Most of the reviews are calling it “cringeworthy” but “heart-warming”.
It gets 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Wrath Of Man” is the latest Guy Ritchie movie with Jason Statham, who plays a newly hired security guard for a cash truck that’s targeted for a heist. He shocks his co-workers when he unleashes his own skills during the heist. Who is he and where did he come from? Statham fans will be pleased but I’m hearing it’s no “Lock ,Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels” or “Snatch”.
It gets 67% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Duty Free”..a perfect Mothers Day doc available on VOD and some select theaters. Rebecca is a 75 year old British-American who loses her job as a housekeeper in the Boston hotel where, as a single mom, she raised her 2 sons- so she’s not only out of work- she’s about to be evicted from her longtime home. Journalist son Sean-Pierre Regis comes to the rescue, not with a job or home but asking her to put together a bucket list and then joining her adventures over the next 3 years. It’s his love letter to mom and both of them join me on “Sonstein Sunday” at 7 AM this weekend.
