Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour was perhaps the rock legend most reluctant to participate in Mick Fleetwood's 2020 concert tribute to Fleetwood Mac co-founder Peter Green.
Despite his misgivings, Gilmour eventually did show up to perform a focused, heartrending version of the early-Fleetwood Mac instrumental classic "Albatross" at the end of the show.
"He had so much reverence for Peter Green's playing and who Peter was and the songs," Fleetwood told Rolling Stone of Gilmour's waffling. "He initially got cold feet. He was like, 'I don't know if I can interpret Peter's work. It's so amazing. Maybe I can't do that...At the moment I'm sort of passing on the idea. But later on, if this happens, I may gather enough courage.'"
Fleetwood went ahead with planning the show, and some time later, he circled back to Gilmour who then agreed to take part.

The full concert, Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate the Music of Peter Green and the Early Years of Fleetwood Mac premiers via Nugs on April 24.
Beyond Fleetwood and Gilmour, the show featured legendary rockers like Pete Townshend, Noel Gallagher, Steven Tyler, Kirk Hammett, Billy Gibbons and Christine McVie interpreting Green's most beloved music.
The concert was filmed last February in London. Green passed away last July at age 73.
He was revered for his revolutionary blues-rock guitar playing, hugely impactful songwriting and for co-founding Fleetwood Mac with drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie in 1967.
