Former Journey frontman Steve Perry is celebrating two years since his Traces album with reimagined versions of eight of the original record's 10 tracks.
Traces was Perry's return to music after a nearly 25-year hiatus since his departure from Journey in the '90s. Traces (Alternative Versions & Sketches) is due out December 4 via Fantasy Records.
The record revisits Perry's favorite tracks from Traces but strips away much of the production to bring the songs back to their essence and, of course, highlight Perry's legendary voice.
"When writing these songs, the original inspiration is always my first compass — where the songs should go," Perry said in a press release. "Alternate Versions & Sketches is exactly that, and I'm very excited to have you hear the original seeds of these songs."

In interviews discussing the initial Traces release, Perry said he completely gave up music after leaving Journey. He only began singing and writing songs again after meeting his girlfriend Dr. Kellie Nash, who passed away of breast cancer in 2012.
Despite the tragedy Perry endured while making the album, Traces is an optimistic album overall.
"It's not all sadness and loss," Perry said in an interview with Q104.3 in 2018. "The album is really, really sort of happy moments. It just opened up my heart to the idea of writing again. When that happened, everything came out."
