Shelli Sonstein Takes us to the Movies

“Harry Chapin: When In Doubt, Do Something”… a documentary love letter to the late great Harry Chapin, whose “Cats ’N The Cradle” is so iconic, it has become a verb. His true legacy though was co-founding WhyHunger with Bill Ayres and the food bank Long Island Cares. We never needed both more than now. One of the few songwriters ever to get the Congressional Gold Medal, Harry Chapin was first and foremost an activist & humanist. Among those serving up anecdotes in the doc: The Boss; Pat Benatar; the late Kenny Rogers and Billy Joel , who , early in his career, opened for Harry Chapin. Billy reveals people thought it was Harry who wrote “Piano Man”. One of the most jarring scenes has Harry pretty much predicting ,in detail, his own death , almost a year to the day before he died in a rear-ender on the LIE when he was just 38. His son, Jason and producer/director Rick Korn join “Sonstein Sunday” at 7 AM.

They say laughter is the best medicine . Adam Sandler AND Robert DeNiro deliver with 2 streaming movies.

DeNiro stars in “The War With Grandpa”, who ends up in a war with his grandchild after he moves in and takes over his grandson’ s bedroom. Uma Thurman, Cheech Marin and Stephanie Seymour  join the cast. The best review I saw called it “not terrible”. Safe & predictable …not bad things right now, right???

On Netflix: Adam Sandler’s “Hubie Halloween” with “Modern Family’s” Julie Bowen as his love interest, co-starrying Steve Buscemi & Kevin James.  Sandler plays the town’s big-hearted busybody who thinks it’s his job to keep the town safe. Hubie goes on a mission when people begin to go missing.
