Zamboni Driver Becomes Hero As Replacement Goalie

Remember when you were a kid and maybe you dreamed of being a sports star one day? Well that dream came true for one man over the weekend.

A Zamboni driver became a hero Saturday night Dave Ayres was called in as an emergency goalie by the Carolina Hurricanes in their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He managed to help Carolina hold the lead, allowing them to skate to victory.

The Hurricanes found themselves in a jam after both of their goalies James Reimer and Petr Mrazek were forced to leave the game because of injuries. That's when the Hurricanes called in 42-year-old, who was on-call, watching the game with his wife at Scotiabank Arena.

Now he wasn’t perfect because once Ayres entered the game mid-way through the second period, the Maple Leafs scored two goals on the first two shots against him. But then Ayres basically turned into the Incredible Hulk and stopped the next eight shots to give the Hurricanes a 6-3 win.

Here is the kicker though that Jim just can’t understand Ayres actually works for the Maple Leafs organization, driving a Zamboni for their American Hockey League Team, the Toronto Marlies. Isn’t that a conflict of interest? Either way good for you Dave Ayres something tells me you’ll be ready to go no matter how old you are or whatever team will need you.
