“Pokémon Detective Pikachu”
Think “Deadpool” meets “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” for kids. It’s a PG-13 partly animated movie starring Ryan Reynolds who’s enlisted by the 21 year old son of his ex-detective partner when the partner goes missing. Reynolds is Detective Pikachu. It gets 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“The Hustle”
Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway star as completely opposite con artists plying their trade in the South of France. One of the better reviews says this is ok if you literally have nothing else to watch. It gets 11% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Tolkien”
The pre-WWI formative years of author J.R.R. Tolkien are shown in this very British film. Tolkein is best known for his “Middle Earth” fantasy novels including “The Hobbit” and the “Lord of the Rings” series. Nicholas Hoult ("Beast" of the 'X-Men' movies) stars as Tolkien with Phil Collins’ daughter, Lily, as his love. It gets 47% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Poms”
Diane Keaton, diagnosed with cancer, moves to a retirement community and starts a cheerleading squad with Rhea Perlman, Jacki Weaver and Pam Grier. “The Hollywood Reporter” says the movie makes these accomplished actresses into sad, pitiful old women. Not even asked to comment on the movie, Angelica Huston said she’d never make an old lady cheerleader movie. This prompted Rhea Perlman to bounce from a planned TV appearance with Huston, calling her cruel and mean. Jacki Weaver, first introduced to American audiences in the film “Animal Kingdom,” said Huston could “go (f) herself.” Never mind “Poms”- just put Rhea Perlman, Jacki Weaver and Angelica Huston in the same room and stream it live!
