Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Has Made Over $500 Million in Theaters

Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Has Made Over $500 Million

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is now the top-earning music biopic in history, surpassing the plateau of 2015's N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton.

After an impressive opening weekend, Bohemian Rhapsody was crowned the second-highest earning music biopic. But the biopic about the band's iconic front man Freddie Mercury proved to have staying power with strong ticket sales, even four weeks into its theatrical run.

The film has now earned more than $500 million worldwide, more than double Straight Outta Compton's $202 million total, and far higher than 2005's Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, which earned $186 million.

But with the film's success, Queen's music has rocketed back up the charts. The song "Bohemian Rhapsody" is back on the Billboard Top 100 for the third time (each previous chart position occurred in a different decade).

The film's soundtrack, which includes previously unreleased audio from the 1985 Live Aid performance, is Queen's highest-charting album since 1980's The Game hit No. 1.

This week, Queen + Adam Lambert announced its 23-date North American Rhapsody tour, coming in 2019.

"This is a great opportunity," guitarist Brian May said through a press release on the tour. "Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever, and got us our best notices ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious! Watch out, America!"
