Ex-WWE Star Brian "Grandmaster Sexay" Christopher Dead at 46

Former WWE performer Brian Christopher Lawler has died in an apparent suicide.

Lawler was taken to the hospital after attempting to hang himself in a Memphis, Tennessee, jail cell. He was placed on life support and was surrounded by family when he died Sunday afternoon, reports say.

The wrestler, 46, is the son of WWE legend Jerry "The King" Lawler. Brian was reportedly incarcerated earlier in July for evading arrest in connection to a traffic stop in which officers found him driving with an open container of alcohol.

In June, the former WWE star was arrested for allegedly not paying a hotel bill in Memphis.

Brian was best known by the ring name Grandmaster Sexay and as a member of the Too Cool tag team, which received regular air time on WWF/WWE programs between 1998 and 2001.

Though not a regular WWE TV presence in recent years, Brian was celebrated on the independent wrestling circuit and in occasional cameos at WWE events.

The Memphis District Attorney is investigating the death.
