Take Me To The Movies: Mission: Impossible- Fallout, Puzzle

Jonathan Clarke saw “Mission Impossible-Fallout” which is getting 98%!!! on Rotten Tomatoes. Everyone is just raving- here’s JC’s take…

The sixth movie in the MI series, started in 1996 by Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible - Fallout, finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan). Henry Cavill plays a traitorous CIA agent, the great Angela Bassett and also Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) join the cast, along with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to direct. McQuarrie directed the last installment in the series, Rogue Nation, and also Cruise' Jack Reacher film.

With a plot of a race against time after a mission gone wrong, what's always amazing about Cruise and the MI franchise, are Cruise's mind-blowing REAL stunts. Among the many breathtaking car chases and shoot outs taking place in Paris, director McQuarrie spoke to us before the screening, and he detailed three (of the many) specific stunts in the film, one, where Cruise literally jumps out of a plane, free-falling from 25,000 feet until the very last minute where he pulls the rip cord on his parachute, all being captured by a cameraman doing the exact same thing, and another, where Cruise had to literally learn how to fly a helicopter in 6 weeks, flying 16 hours a day in order to get certified. We also learned that throughout most of the filming in Paris, Tom Cruise had a broken ankle, which did not stop him from doing the many incredible foot chases and fight scenes. No special FX in these stunts, they all are real! GO SEE THIS! ***** - five stars

“Puzzle”

Also opening and the starring “Boardwalk Empire’s” Kelly Macdonald (who is my 7am guest this week on “Sonstein Sunday”) is “Puzzle.” It’s a coming of ager centering on a 40 something year old woman finding herself after devoting her whole life to her family. It’s definitely one for adults...and will surprise you with how it ends. It’s Kelly’s first starring role and she’s perfectly cast.
