The legacy of Metallica was celebrated at the San Francisco Giants' sixth annual "Metallica Night" on Monday, April 23rd, at AT&T Park in San Francisco as the Giants took on the Washington Nationals. Guitarist Kirk Hammett, drummers Lars Ulrich, and bassist Robert Trujillo were in attendance to cheer on the Giants and Hammett performed a ripping version of the National Anthem before the game. A portion of the proceeds from the tickets sold for "Metallica Night" will go to the band's All Within My Hands foundation that supports "a cross-section of national, local and Bay Area charities that the individual band members support, along with continuing to donate to music education programs and food banks."

Watch Kirk Hammett shred through the National Anthem below. He looks like he had a blast while doing it.

Lars Ulrich also threw out the 1st pitch of the game and did a pretty great job.

Kirk picked up the guitar again to perform "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch. The grounds crew also put Trujillo and Kirk to work and helped between innings.

Metallica's James Hetfield spoke about the yearly event, saying (via Blabbermouth): "We're blessed to be doing this every year and being a part of the vibe here. You know, when times are good, when times are bad, they need the support.”

Kirk Hammett added: "It's great. It's a lot of fun. It's a good opportunity for us to interact with our home team, hometown, and interact with the people of the Bay Area in San Francisco. And for me, it's a lot of fun to be able to play the national anthem."

The Bay Area heavy metal legends have performed for other local sports teams including the Golden State Warriors and the San Jose Sharks hockey games.
