Myles Kennedy has had an incredible career from Alter Bridge to Slash's band, his solo career and many fascinating detours in between.
At this point, Myles has collaborated with a mind-boggling number of his heroes, including his now-famous flirtation with Led Zeppelin some 13 years ago. While he says it's hard to reckon with all of it, he's infinitely grateful for the ride.
"I feel like I'm the Forrest Gump of rock and roll," Myles tells Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke. "Like, how did I get in this situation? It's fascinating."
While Myles has yet to run across the country like Forrest did in the 1994 film, he did drive from Washington to Florida mid-pandemic to record his new solo album, The Ides of March.
Myles left home in the Pacific Northwest last August bound for Michael "Elvis" Baskette's Forida studio, collecting band members along the way. He says the road trip and resulting musical retreat were welcome distractions from everything wrong with the world.
"[The drive] took like three day and it was really fun. It was actually probably one of the funnest parts of making that record," he says. "I'm taking [drummer Zia Uddin] and [bassist Tim Tournier] out on this run, and we actually just did rehearsals for the last week. We're taking these songs and reimagining them as a three-piece, which generally means they the songs rock a little harder."
