Gene Simmons, Gibson Announce Cure For 'Ugly Bass Syndrome'

Gene Simmons has partnered with Gibson to find a cure for "ugly bass syndrome" (UBS) with Gibson's first-ever signature artist bass, the Gene Simmons G2 Thunderbird.

The G2 is a revamped version of Gibson's classic Thunderbird bass model. The company is touting it as one of many new signature and core guitars to come.

The KISS bassist and Gibson introduced the new instrument in an '80s-style infomercial that dropped Tuesday.

In the ad, Doctor D. D'Mone (Simmons) from the Institute for Bass Guitar Solutions says the G2 is the ultimate solution for the following symptoms:

  • Not enough bottom end
  • Not enough punch
  • Bad intonation

And it sure seems to work! Check out the spot via the player above!

In a press release announcing the G2, Simmons called Gibson "an outstanding company" that worked hard to bring his vision into reality.

"The new G2 Thunderbird basses are all handmade in the USA, with a sound that is off the charts," Simmons added. "The design is so beautiful and collectible, they are simply works of art."

Gibson Brand President Cesar Gueikian elaborated that the G2 is the product of more than a year of work between Simmons and his company.

"It looks and sounds EPIC, and it is unmistakably Gene," Gueikian said. "Working with him is such a privilege for all of us at GIbson; he is deeply involved in every aspect of developing the guitars and planning our launch."
