John Mayer Shares Heartbreaking Tribute To Bob Saget

When so many people told John Mayer that trying stand-up comedy was a horrible idea, Bob Saget helped the young pop star craft his first act and secured him his first few minutes of stage time.

Mayer didn't stick as a stand-up, but he's always believed that he is better for having given it a try. He wouldn't have done it without his dear friend.

Numerous recollections of Bob that have surfaced in the wake of his sudden passing this weekend, paint him as an impossibly kind, genuine person who forged many close friendships during his long career.

"I love you, Bob. I will never forget you," Mayer wrote via Instagram early-Monday. "I will visit you often in my memories, and I hope I get to see you in my dreams. I will tell my kids about you. I’m taking you with me forever. I love you, Bob."

Mayer first met the sitcom star around 2003. After performing at Saget's annual fundraiser for the Scleroderma Research Foundation, the pair started becoming close friends. Mayer eventually confessed his lifelong fascination with comedy and Bob soon took him to the Laugh Factory in L.A. to try out some of his jokes in front of an audience.

"It wasn't a question of, 'Can I get him on?' You know?" Saget recalled this past summer during an interview with Q104.3. "And then he sang something after trying to do some funny, perverted farm animal jokes that I, of course, said, 'Oh, do that!' And then we just started being friends. He is a miraculous friend."

Mayer and Saget performed together this past summer during Dave Chappelle's Summer Camp music and comedy festival.
