Sammy Hagar's 2020 Tour With The Circle Will Be His Biggest In Years

After some moderate touring last spring in support of their debut album, Sammy Hagar & The Circle are planning a much busier run in 2020.

"I'm going to do a 40-city tour," Hagar said during an appearance this week at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. "I haven't done this in a long time. This year, we made a record [Space Between] and I was told, 'You've got to go out and support it.' I don't like to go away and tour, but I love to play shows. The way we do it with The Circle, we play a couple shows a month, but I'm going to do 40 cities — a real tour — next year. I'm doubling from what I did this year. I decided that I've got to do this while I still can."

Hagar & The Circle, which also features ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson, toured for about five weeks last spring amid rumors that Anthony was about to reunite with Van Halen.

After the purported Van Halen stadium tour never materialized, Hagar admitted that The Circle had plotted its 2019 schedule around what it expected would be Anthony's reunion with his former band.

With VH unlikely to reform while Eddie Van Halen undergoes treatment for cancer, Hagar, Anthony and their band are free to tour as much as they feel like.

The frontman added that at his age, 72, he probably doesn't have many good years left: "There's going to be a day I wake up and go, 'I can't do this no more,' not because I don't want to in my heart, but because my knees, my back, my voice, something's going to say, 'Nope.' It's inevitable for everyone, so I'm going to go ahead and dig in."

While The Circle has been together for many years, the band released its debut studio album in May via BMG. Space Between is a concept album that tackles money, greed and jealousy. Hagar has said it's one of the best things he's ever written.
