Phoebe Bridgers Laments Quarantine Negativity, Talks New 'Punisher' Album

Phoebe Bridgers is doing her best to make good use of her new life in relative lockdown.

And while she's keeping busy reading books, learning piano and learning to type with all of her fingers, she says the stress of the pandemic situation has brought to the forefront a new personality characteristic.

"I feel like I'm so much more judgmental of people," Phoebe tells Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke. "I miss the way my brain use to work. Like now I just drive down the street and I'm judging every single person I drive by who's not wearing a mask or standing in a group of, like, 10. It just makes me so much more cynical. I miss my old brain."

Pessimism in a pandemic is something we all can relate to, however. Phoebe has reason to be discouraged, too.

Her second solo album, Punisher, arrives June 19, when most of us will still be locked down. She's also stuck at home instead of being on tour with The 1975 right now.

Phoebe says the many of the songs on Punisher have been in the works for a few years now, having come about before or between her collaborations with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus in boygenius or Conor Oberst in Better Oblivion Community Center.
