The Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan Drowned in Hotel Bathtub

Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan died by drowning in a bathtub as a result of alcohol intoxication.

O'Riordan was found dead in a London hotel room on January 15, hours before a recording session.

The singer was reportedly submerged, face-up in the bath when her body was discovered that morning by a maid, The Guardian reports

The Westminster Court Coroner ordered an inquest into O'Riordan's death this past winter when it was determined she did not die of natural causes.

Her blood alcohol level was reportedly four times the legal limit to drive in England.

Investigators found five empty miniature bottles of liquor from the room's bar at the scene, as well as an 11-ounce bottle of champagne.

O'Riordan was also evidently mixing prescription drugs with the alcohol, including the anti-anxiety medication lorazepam. She had also been smoking heavily.

"There's no evidence that this was anything other than an accident," Dr. Shirley Radcliffe, the coroner, noted in her report. "There was no intention; this seems to be solely a tragic accident."

O'Riordan's bandmates issued a statement Thursday morning after news of the coroner's findings was released.

"Dolores will live on eternally in her music," the band said in the statement. "To see how much of a positive impact she had on people's lives has been a source of great comfort to us. We'd like to say thank you to all of our fans for the outpouring messages and their continued support during this very difficult time."

The band also asked for privacy as the members and their families continue to grieve.
