Watch Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell Sing "Hunger Strike," "Crawling"

It was well known that Linkin Park's Chester Bennington and Soundgarden's Chris Cornell -- two of the most recognizable rock voices of their respective generations -- were close friends.

Bennington was devastated by Cornell's passing. Tweeting the day Cornell died that he had just had a dream about music when he woke up to the news about his friend.

"I just watched a video of you singing 'A Day in the Life' by The Beatles and thought of my dream," he wrote in the tribute. "I'd like to think you were saying goodbye in your own way. I can't imagine a world without you in it."

Thursday, July 20, the date Bennington was found dead, was Cornell's birthday.

Bennington and Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson performed at Cornell's memorial service.
