Not even pain from a hairline fracture in his hip, could keep Tom Petty from embarking on his final tour.
Petty toured from April through September, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on the hip—an issue he planned to get taken care of this fall, his manager Tony Dimitriades told Rolling Stone.
Dimitriades recalled telling Petty, "You can't tour like that."
But Petty responded, "Why not? I'll do it in a chair if I have to."
While two shows early in the trek were postponed, that was because of laryngitis.
Petty's final show—also the last date on the tour—was September 25 at the Hollywood Bowl.
He passed away a week later, on October 2, after suffered a heart attack at home in Malibu.
