Two years before Woodstock, there was the Monterey Pop Festival. Likely the first of its kind, the world was introduced to the likes of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Otis Redding, Jefferson Airplane, and so many more.
This weekend, we're celebrating the 50th anniversary. And coincidentally, it took place over this exact weekend.
Shelli Sonstein spoke to DA Pennybaker. He and his crew shot the concert and created the movie Monterey Pop, which also was the first of its kind. Here, they actually developed the techniques for filming concerts.
