Elton John Was Hospitalized With Infection, Eight Shows Cancelled

Elton John reportedly spent two nights in intensive care at a London hospital after contracting a "harmful and unusual bacterial infection" during a recent South American tour.

John is reportedly recovering at home now.

“During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, [John] became violently ill," his team said in a statement (via Uproxx). "Upon returning to the U.K., Elton’s doctors admitted him to hospital, where he underwent immediate treatment to remove the infection. After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22, and is now comfortably resting at home per doctor’s advice.”

As a result of the illness, John has cancelled all of his scheduled shows for April and May.

Doctors reportedly told the singer they expect a complete recovery in time for his scheduled tour to begin June 3 in London.

John later posted a brief statement to Twitter.
