NY Hospital Recommends Queen, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd Songs for CPR Timing

New York Presbyterian has released a list of songs people can use to properly time CPR.

When people are being taught to perform hands-only CPR on an adult, they're told to give sternum compressions at a rate of about 100 beats per minute.

Since not everybody can be Neil Peart in the timing department (especially during an emergency), the popular method is to sing a song to yourself while giving chest compressions in order to keep your compressions steady and on-beat.

The go-to song for many reasons (including coincidence, we're sure) is "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. But alas, disco is dead, and not everybody knows that particular song. So New York Presbyterian Hospital offered a playlist of popular songs in that same 100 BPM range that will also work for timing CPR.

The playlist includes 40 songs from different genres, so there's something for everybody.

Here are the rock tunes in the order in which they appear on the playlist:

1. Simon & Garfunkel "Cecilia"

2. The Black Crowes "Hard to Handle"

3. Lynyrd Skynyrd "Sweet Home Alabama"

4. Queen "Another One Bites The Dust"

5. Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love"

6. Pink Floyd "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2"

7. Norman Greenbaum "Spirit In The Sky"

8. The Doors "Five To One"

9. Modest Mouse "Float On"

10. Barenaked Ladies "One Week"

Performing CPR more than doubles the survival rate of patients who go into cardiac arrest.
