Brace Yourselves: A Maple Syrup Shortage Is Coming

Thanks to the warm winter we could be facing a maple syrup shortage! And unlike Canada, the United States doesn't have a Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve. Yes, that's a real thing. According to Grub Street, some farmers say production is down by as much as 75 percent this year because of 2017’s unseasonably warm start, calling the reduced sap flow  “devastating to us.”

The US has been doubling imports from Canada over the last decade because of rising demand, so any shortfall could impact supplies, and in turn, prices.

This could cause potential devistation. Today is IHOP's National Pancake Day. Can you imagine pancakes without maple syrup?? Frankly I don't want to live in that world.

Do you know how maple syrup is made? Watch this scene from a Canadian children's television show. Hope your French is good...
