Carrie Underwood kicked off her “Denim & Rhinestones” tour this past weekend, which included a cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle,” and she admits she added that song in the set just for her.
“Guns N’ Roses is for sure a definite favorite, and we’ve covered them throughout my career,” she tells “USA Today.” “ But being around them (at Stagecoach) ... I feel like I’ve been working up to “Welcome to the Jungle” for a while.”
She adds, “I figured if I’m going to do (the song), let’s do it now. That’s my super-selfish moment in the show – it’s all mine and for me!” Check out her performance of the song to the right.
And speaking of that Stagecoach performance with Axl Rose earlier this year, Carrie revealed just how she got him to agree to join her at the festival. She tells Rolling Stone Axl’s appearance was “many years in the making,” noting she’s asked him before and “we had a couple of almost maybes,” that never happened. But for this show she said she sent him an email saying, “We're so close to you,” and she let him know “why and what he meant to me,” sharing how she would “try to emulate” his voice to help her sing hard vocals. And it worked. She notes, “We had rehearsals and everything went very smoothly. It was easy for all of us to be around each other. Hopefully he had a good time."
