Metallica Releases Animated Music Video For 'Master Of Puppets'

As Metallica's 1986 heavy metal masterpiece "Master of Puppets" hooks a new generation of fans this summer, the band is celebrating with a brand new music video for the song.

"Master of Puppets" surged into sales charts around the world earlier this month after the song was featured in a pivotal scene in the Stranger Things season 4 finale. The title track from arguably Metallica's most influential album had never charted (or had an official music video) before this July.

Ahead of the release of the season finale, Metallica praised Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer for their incorporation of music into the dramatic fabric of the show.

"We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away... it's so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of [actor] Joseph Quinn's hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?" the band said in a statement.

Though "Master of Puppets" just became a worldwide phenomenon, the song is long-beloved by Metallica fans and was even inducted into the Library of Congress' National Recorded Music Registry in 2015.

Metallica fans voted "Master" as the band's greatest work ever in a 2020 poll conducted by the band. The song earned more votes than the band's legitimate crossover hits, like "Enter Sandman," "Fade to Black," "One" and "Nothing Else Matters."
