Shelli Takes us to the Movies 10/14!

“Halloween Kills”.. opening only in theaters, this is the 12th“Halloween” movie in the franchise, if you’re keeping track. It’s a follow-up to the 2018 movie, again starring the woman who acting career, starring in the original 43 years ago, Jamie Lee Curtis. Also starring: Judy Greer and Anthony Michael Hall. It’s bloodier than the last.

It’s only getting 49% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The Last Duel”.. also opening only in theaters: co-written by Matt Damon & Ben Affleck, their first collaboration since the Oscar-winning “Good Will Hunting” with “Gladiator’s” Ridley Scott directing.  Starring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Adam Driver, this is a Medieval meets me too movement drama. Based on a real story, set in the Hundred Years War, this is centered on the last duel-to-the death sanctioned by France. Two former friends duel after a wife, played by British actress Jodie Comer, accuses the other man of raping her. It’s getting 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Velvet Underground”.. this doc by Todd Haynes is opening in theaters but you can also see it on Apple Tv- Plus.  It’s a straightforward story , starting with Lou Reed’s childhood on Long Island and John Cale’s in Wales. It’s close to halfway through before the Velvet Underground starts recording their first album in 1967 and there’s very little footage of them playing live but “The Wall Street Journal” says it’s a beautifully poetic meditation on the emotional and cultural power of rock and the allure of making a life in art. It scores 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
