Take Me To The Movies: 'The Suicide Squad' And 'Pig'

“The Suicide Squad”…we waited 5 years for a sequel to the first “Suicide Squad”. This time James Gunn directs. You know his work: The “Guardian of The Galaxy” franchise (with #3 on the way next year)  and “Avengers: End Game & Infinity War”. 2-time Oscar nominee Margot Robbie is back, along with Oscar winner Viola Davis, who happens to be the most Oscar-nominated Black woman in history! Also joining the cast: Idris Elba; Q friend John Cena and the iconic Sly Stallone. The action takes place in a prison with the highest mortality rate in the world: where super villains will do anything to get out. It’s not a re-hash of the 1stfilm. It’s described as fun anarchy with somewhat repetitive violence. The R-rated 2-hour-12 minute film gets a glowing 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Pig”..now in theaters and available on Amazon Prime and Apple Tv, this dark character study , which is filmed just as darkly, has been acclaimed as the best work Oscar winner Nicolas Cage has done in years. By my tally, The Cope’s younger bro has starred in 116 films.

Cage stars as a man living alone in the Oregon wilderness, surviving as a truffle hunter. His only relationship is with his pet pig, who is also a truffle hunter. The loner’s world comes undone when his pig is stolen from him in a violent act. The loner goes on a mission to the big city, Portland, to find his pig. Q friend Alexx Wolff (who has guested on “Sonstein Sunday”) co-stars along with Adam Arkin. It’s a story set in the foodie world but is about much more than that. Along the way, we get to learn the loner’s story, as he confronts his past.

“Pig” gets 97% from the critics on “Rotten Tomatoes” and 83% from moviegoers.
