Hold off on putting on that coat of lipstick for a second! A new study has found that major makeup. brands contain toxic 'forever chemicals' in their lipsticks, mascara, eyeliner, blush, and more.

The name 'forever chemicals' is what they will call it because they are chemicals not known to naturally break down. The evidence of these chemicals are shown in about how much flourine a product has. The products that more often contain high levels of fluorine include waterproof mascara (82% of brands tested), foundations (63%) and liquid lipstick (62%). The chemicals found have been linked to birth defects, cancer, and lower immunity.

Tom Bruton, a senior scientist with Green Science Policy Institute and one of the study’s authors, says that researchers were surprised by the amount of products that contained the chemical.

“This is the first study to look at total fluorine or PFAS in cosmetics so we just didn’t know what we were going to find,” he said. “This is a product that people are spreading on their skin day after day, so there’s really a potential for significant exposure.”

The study does not reveal which brands use these 'forever chemicals' because the authors of the study did not want to "pick on" the companies involved, according to The Guardian.
