“The White Tiger” ...on Netflix. This darkly funny drama centers on the rise of a poor villager who rises to successful entrepreneur in modern-day India. Our young hero is hired as a driver for an Indian couple who just returned from America. Basically a servant, he makes himself indispensable until a night of betrayal leads to his rebellion. One critic says it’s Dickens with “A Little Scarface”. It’s getting 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“I’m Your Woman” …now on Amazon Prime, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” Rachel Brosnahan is almost unrecognizable , back to her natural blonde hair, playing the naïve young wife of a mobster. After her husband betrays his partners, she’s awakened in the middle of the night by a total stranger who worked with her husband – she’s told for her own safety and the safety of her baby, they both have to go into hiding . This is the second period piece for Brosnahan because the movie is set in the 1970’s. My husband didn’t believe when I told him this was the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She looks that different. And she’s just as impressive in a totally different role. We, the audience, is as much in the dark as she is.
