Leslie West, Legendary Mountain Frontman, Passes Away At Age 75

Leslie West, the frontman of legendary hard rock pioneers Mountain, has passed away at the age of 75. Dean Guitars confirmed the news on social media.

"With a heavy heart, we are saddened hear about the passing of #Dean Artist and part of the Dean family, Leslie West. Legendary and one of a kind. Rest In Peace," the company tweeted Wednesday (December 23).

As Variety reports, Leslie's brother, Larry West Weinstein, alerted fans of his declining health in a Facebook post Sunday (December 20). “I am asking for all your prayers. Jenni [Leslie’s wife] is by his side in Florida but it’s not looking good," he wrote. "Thanks Jenni, he wouldn’t have made it this far without you. His heart gave out and he’s on a ventilator. May not make it through the night.”

Leslie formed Mountain in 1969 and the band's original tenure was short-lived — they broke up in 1972 — however, the members went on to reunite on various occasions over the past 50 years. One of their biggest claims to fame was performing their third show ever at Woodstock, and their other was releasing the hit "Mississippi Queen" on their 1970 debut album, Climbing!.

In fact, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters producer Greg Kurstin covered "Mississippi Queen" just last week during their Hanukkah Sessions series. Watch their cover below.

Rest in peace, Leslie.
