Peter Asher: How a Lennon/McCartney Throwaway Became an International No. 1

Jim Kerr speaks with actor, musician, producer and record company exec. Peter Asher about his new book 'The Beatles from A to Zed: An Alphabetical Mystery Tour.' Jim discusses with Peter his career starting as child actor through his teaming with Gordon Waller as the successful musical duo Peter and Gordon. Peter was there throughout all of the British Invasion and much more: As an A&R man for Apple Records he would go on to sign James Taylor. He managed artists like Linda Ronstadt, and produced albums for the likes of Taylor, Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, 10,000 Maniacs, Randy Newman and Ringo Starr.

Peter shares how he was the first person in the world to hear 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' moments after it was written. Asher also talks about McCartney's contributions to Peter and Gordon's international No. 1 hit 'A World Without Love.' He also elaborates on some unique British cultural activities, like what exactly is a "Mystery Tour"?

Asher's book is a conversational collection of stories from a person present at the very start of Beatlemania and a part of John, Paul, George and Ringo's inner circle. It's filled with amazing first hand stories from an unbelievable life. 'The Beatles from A to Zed' is out now through Holt, Henry & Company and is in all bookstores and online retailers.
