Paul McCartney and Starr have praised Giles Martin's work in remastering their catalog in recent years, noting the additional prominence of the rhythm section on recent revamped versions of their albums.
In 2017 and 2018, The Beatles reissued Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the band's self-titled "White" album, respectively. In addition to the original track list, each expanded edition included demos and alternate takes which gave fans an inside look at the Beatles' creative process during the band's most consequential period in the late-'60s.
While Starr says he gets "a bit fed up" with the outtakes, he adds that he understands it to be a necessary evil to stoke interest in the reissues.
This summer, Starr is on tour with his All-Starr Band, which will include a stop in Bethel, New York, in the middle of this month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock at the festival's original site.
