Corey Taylor Says New Slipknot Album Is "Darkest" In Years

Celebrating David Bowie

Slipknot front man Corey Taylor says the band's forthcoming sixth studio album contains some of the bleakest material in the band's catalog.

Taylor tells Kerrang! that We Are Not Your Kind is "some of the darkest writing I've done in years."

He continued, describing the album's sonic palette as falling "somewhere between Iowa and Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)."

"Lyrically, it has the force of Iowa, but musically it has the heaviness but the experimentation as well. It was very important for us to go somewhere crazy and making something insane."

In the past, Taylor has revealed that much of the lyrics on the album were inspired by depression and anger from his divorce in 2017. He said he's mostly free of those negative feelings now, but those memories "will never go away. My memory is long," he added.

The band recently released the first single, "Unsainted," from We Are Not Your Kind. You can watch the official lyric video below.
