'Rocketman' Will Debut Two Weeks Early In Hundreds Of Theaters

Eager fans can see Elton John's Rocketman biopic as early as May 18.

The film isn't scheduled for a worldwide release until May 31, but Fandango has partnered with Paramount Pictures to allow the early screenings at nearly 400 theaters nationwide, including several major chains.

Rocketman is an epic fantasy musical, starring actor Taron Egerton as the iconic singer and composer. Egerton has been lauded for his performance in the film and for singing all of John's songs himself.

"The film is Elton's magical retelling of his own life," said director Dexter Fletcher.

So while John's biggest fans will notice anachronisms typical of a Hollywood biopic, John himself says it's utterly honest about the struggles he faced with depression and addiction.

"It had to be as honest as possible," John said. "The lows were very low, but the highs were very high. And that's how I wanted the film to be."

The early screening of Rocketman will be the third of several advance screenings Fandango plans to present this year. In February, the service offered Early Access Screenings for How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Shazam!
