Daughter of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” Singer Dismisses Criticism

Debbi Whiting, the daughter of Margaret Whiting who sang “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” says the song “is stronger than ever” despite recent controversy.

“We’re really in sensitive times right now, but I think she would feel that this was an enormous push for the song,” Whiting told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”

A Cleveland radio station pulled the song from rotation because they were uncomfortable with some of the lyrics in the “Me Too” era.  But Whiting said the song has also been performed with the roles reversed and with two women singing the two parts.

“It’s been done so many different ways and now all of a sudden, baboom,” Whiting said.

The controversy may have actually backfired on those boycotting the song.  Whiting said the number of streams for the song have increased.

“The radio stations should really take a firmer stand on the holiday season and the songs they play,” Whiting said.
