Bruce Springsteen to Perform at Asbury Lanes Grand Reopening Event

Bruce Springsteen Will Perform at Reopening of Asbury Lanes

The Jersey Shore's most beloved performer has agreed to reopen one of the region's most historic venues.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (and New Jersey Hall of Famer) Bruce Springsteen will perform at the grand reopening of the newly renovated Asbury Lanes concert venue and bowling alley on Monday, June 18.

Also on the bill for the evening is Grammy-winning alternative band Portugal. the Man

Asbury Lanes reopened over Memorial Day Weekend after being shuttered for renovations since 2015. In its heyday the venue served as a launching pad for some of New Jersey's biggest bands and cozy hangout for locals.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County.

Asbury Park residents can enter an online lottery to get tickets for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening. The lottery will accept entries until 8 a.m. Thursday, June 7.

First opened in 1962, Asbury Lanes was an 18-lane bowling alley that later became a popular concert venue for local garage bands.

Developer iStar boasted earlier this spring that the new and improved venue's original capacity of 300 was more than doubled thanks to the improvements. The new Asbury Lanes reportedly feels like part "CBGB, part Cheers, part Barney's Bowlarama."

Asbury Lanes was in danger of being condemned before it was closed in 2015 due to structural and mechanical issues. Developers say that only four walls of the original structure were able to be preserved, but they hope they have reinforced the artistic spirit for which the space has been so beloved.
