Take Me To The Movies: Super Troopers 2, I Feel Pretty

“Super Troopers 2”

How on earth did it take 17 (!!!) years to make a sequel to this cult fave???!!! So, the Broken Lizard guys are back. The team is called in to set up a new highway patrol station to handle an international border dispute between the U.S. and Canada. I didn’t see it. And while it gets just 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a built-in audience. It even gets a back-handed compliment from “The New York Times,” which says you don’t have to be high to find it funny!!!

“I Feel Pretty”

Amy Schumer forgoes her usual hardcore R rating for a PG-13 in a movie she didn’t write.

Again, I didn’t see it but I LOVE the premise: An insecure woman with body issues wakes up from a brutal fall in exercise class believing she is a supermodel. She then leads a fearless life ‘til she realizes her body never changed. Michelle Williams and Emily Ratajkowski co-star. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 35%.

“Ghost Stories”

Horror fans may want to check out this out. It's structured like an anthology with 3 spine-tingling stories. It also features Martin Freeman (the U.K. version of 'The Office,' 'The Hobbit' trilogy, TV's 'Fargo') and is getting 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“After Auschwitz”

This doc is showing at the AMC on 42nd Street. It’s the stories of what happened to 6 women AFTER they were liberated from the Auschwitz concentration camp, where more than a million, mostly Jews, were killed. My takeaway from this movie (and what a simple guide it is) is this line from one of the survivors: “I refuse to dwell on things that make me miserable.” Director Jon Kean is featured on “Sonstein Sunday” at 7:15am this week, and he will do a Q&A after the 1:30pm screening this Sunday.
