Mark Messier Presents Billy Joel With Record-Breaking Banner

Back in December 2013, it was announced that Billy Joel would be Madison Square Garden's first-ever music franchise. The music titan was brought in The Garden's fold alongside the New York Knicks, Rangers, and Liberty. He debuted his first show in January 2014 and Joel has played a show on that stage every month since then. Joel's concert on Wednesday, March 29 marked his 50th consecutive show at Madison Square Garden. This isn't only an incredibly impressive feat, it's also record breaking. The Garden made sure to commemorate the occasion

Rangers legend Mark Messier came out on stage during Joel's set to present him with his record-breaking banner. The large blue banner was hung in the arena where it will stay to commemorate Joel's one-of-a-kind musical franchise at The Garden.  It was an unforgettable moment for everyone there to witness it. “I don’t believe this,” Joel said, after the banner was raised to the rafters by Mark Messier. “This is nuts.” He my call it nuts, but to all his devoted fans...it's simply well deserved.

Just because Joel has hit 50th shows in his residency - and 96 shows total at The Garden over his career - it doesn't mean he has any plans of slowing down. It was announced today that the Franchise at Madison Square Garden will continue for a 58th consecutive show. Billy Joel has scheduled another show in his unprecedented MSG run for Saturday, November 10, 2018.

The November show is part of Joel's residency at The World’s Most Famous Arena, which began in January 2014 with Joel playing one show per month at The Garden. The November 2018 show will be Joel’s 104th all-time performance at The Garden. Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.

Congratulations, Billy Joel!
