Massive Sculpture of Bon Scott Unveiled in Melbourne

Late-AC/DC frontman Bon Scott has been honored again in Australia with a sculpture.

The Scottish-born singer for Australia's biggest rock 'n' roll export had a previous sculpture dedicated to him in Fremantle, Australia, in 2008.

Now Scott has been immortalized in a 10-foot high, near-7-foot-wide three-dimensional mural Tuesday on AC/DC Lane in Melbourne, Australia.

The statue is reportedly part of the Victorian State Government's "Rockin' the Laneways" initiative, acknowledging the country's rich contributions to rock and roll with new landmarks.

The owner of the Cherry Bar on AC/DC Lane collaborated with local street artist Mike Makatron on the project.

Makatron has painted the lane with in a musical theme every year for the past five years.

"...[It's] an honor to add a permanent 3D element that pays tribute to a great Australian rock and roll band and its lead singer Bon Scott, but also to music in general," he said.

Scott performed on AC/DC's first six albums, including classics like High Voltage and Highway to Hell, before his death in 1980.

Scott has previously been immortalized in statue form in his hometown of Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland, and in Fremantle, Australia.

Members of AC/DC over the years have talked about how the band came close to breaking up after Scott's death.

But AC/DC forged ahead, using Scott's death to inspire its legendary 1980 comeback album, Back in Black, the first to feature Brian Johnson on vocals.

Johnson left the band in 2016. He claimed his hearing loss was so bad that he wasn't able to hear the guitars onstage and that he was performing on "muscle memory" by the end of his 36 years with the band.

After parting ways with Johnson, AC/DC hired Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose to help the band complete its Rock or Bust World Tour.

Longtime bassist Cliff Williams retired at the conclusion of that tour.

Co-founding guitarist Malcolm Young passed away in November, after having stepped away from the band in 2011 due to dementia.

Some close to the band have suggested guitarist Angus Young is determined to continue to the band with Rose as the frontman.
