Duran Duran's 'Invisible' Music Video Is First-Ever To Be Produced By A.I.

More than 40 years into their career, Duran Duran is still making music that feels relevant. That's how you know it's still going well.

Speaking to Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke about their forthcoming album, Future Past, Simon Le Bon and Roger Taylor noted how their new single, "Invisible," took on a new meaning for them just months after it was written in early-2020.

"It was one of the first songs we finished with Erol [Alkan, producer]. But it touches on some subjects that are very, very relevant right now," Le Bon said. "It begins as a story between a couple — a relationship that isn't quite right. One person feels that they're not being listened to, that they're not being heard, that they are invisible. Then halfway through the song it grows into something bigger, when I say, '...But a voiceless crowd isn't backing down / The air turns red with their loaded hesitation.

"This idea of crowds getting together and making their voices heard actually, which is exactly what you've been seeing all over the world with things like the Black Lives Matter movement and Extinction Rebellion. A lot of people who are feeling that they are not being listened have come out and are starting to make a noise."

Dovetailing with the timeliness of the lyrics, the always forward-looking Duran Duran enlisted an A.I. called Huxley to produce the groundbreaking music video for "Invisible." The video, which you can watch below, is the first music video ever produced entirely by A.I.

"It was the first time a video's ever been created by artificial intelligence with no human input apart from putting in lyrics and maybe some photographs of us and whatever, the computer has just done its own thing and delivered an amazing series of images for the song," Taylor adds. "It fits beautifully."
