Ditinho do Asilo, who is a member of a Christian party, pulled out the panties that were sent to him in the mail during the call where he thought the camera was off.
This all occurred during an online meeting in the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
In the video, the politicians can be seen discussing issues when council member Ditinho do Asilo of the Social Christian Party pulls out a pair of small red panties, studies the knickers in depth before lifting the thong up to his nose and taking a sniff.
The politician has tried to explain his behavior, saying he had received a present in the mail during the session and had deactivated his microphone when he collected it.
He said he was then checking to see what he had been given, thinking that his video had also been deactivated along with his microphone.
Another council member tried to alert him, and only then did he realize his camera was still on.
Asilo added: “It was a misfortune of my lack of practice with this technology. I wore a pink shirt and, as a joke, a friend sent me these knickers.
“It was an edible item from one of those sex shops. That’s why I sniffed it. I have a family.
The council is looking into the incident and have not yet decided if any measures will be taken, according to reports.
