G. Love Tells The Story Behind 'The Juice'

It's been five years since the last album from G. Love & Special Sauce, so G. Love wanted to come back with something road-tested and timely.

The result is a collection of salient and sincere new jams packed with purpose and joy and produced by blues legend Keb'Mo'.

The Juice is available everywhere January 17.

G. Love tells Q104.3's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke that Keb's guidance proved essential to bringing the album's message to fruition.

"'The Juice' is the title track and this is a protest song," he says. "It's kind of my knee-jerk reaction to where our country is at right now with politics and a lot of the divisiveness and the hate and everything. I just couldn't help but write it."

After Love brought in the verses, he and Keb wrote the chorus in a few minutes. You can hear G. Love perform "The Juice" live in studio in the player below.

"It's really about bringing people together," Love adds of "The Juice." "It was really interesting to write it with Keb because, you know, he's an African-American man who probably grew up during the civil rights movement. There was a lot of weight behind those lyrics."
