U.K. band Sports Team is still hoping to catch the thieves who stole all of their guitars and keyboards from their van earlier this month.
Sports Team was grabbing breakfast at their hotel the night after playing their largest gig ever, London's O2 Arena, when two men broke into their van and nicked their gear.
The broad-daylight heist was so brazen, even drummer Alex G, who saw it in progress, tells Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke that she thought the men were just her bandmates in clothing she didn't recognize.
"Somebody in the hotel snapped [a photo of one of the suspects and the getaway car] and the police were there immediately, but sadly, they couldn't find them," she says. "...It was grim. We had a show that night, as well, in the north of England."
But the band also recognizes that the very fact that they were able to persevere through the mid-tour loss of so much equipment puts them in an enviable position.
"We're quite lucky because we've got the label backing," frontman Alex Rice points out. "You realize that if you didn't, that'd be the end of your band. It really would; you can't play anymore."
Sports Team is touring the U.S. in support of their latest EP, Mak-ing Hay, another guitar-driven record showcasing the band's bristling energy and dry wit.
