“The Happytime Murders”
The latest raunch comedy with an “R” rating. Set in the seedy underbelly of L.A., where puppets and humans co-exist. The always funny Melissa McCarthy works with cops to solve the murder of a beloved cast member of a puppet TV show. Elizabeth Banks & Maya Rudolph co-star with Joel McHale. I didn’t see it, but it currently has just 26 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
“A.X.L.”
A.X. L. is a top-secret robotic dog created by the military to help protect tomorrow’s soldiers. In an experiment gone wrong, the robotic dog is found by a kind-hearted stranger in the desert. Again, I didn’t get a chance to see it.
“Searching”
A truly original, groundbreaking thriller. How often have I ever said that?!! It’s a genre changer because the story is completely told through tech devices: laptops and smartphones. And it works. It’s not gimmicky. Because it’s a taut thriller. John Cho stars as a widower dad whose only child, his 16-year-old daughter, goes missing. A de-glammed Debra Messing co-stars as a detective. I loved this movie. And so do the critics- 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
